A canal bridge is a hydraulic engineering structure designed to carry a canal over another canal or river without the need to descend to the level of the lower waterway. It is also referred to as an aqueduct, although an aqueduct is more of a water conduit that is carried over a bridge. Canal bridges are specifically designed for navigation. Well-known canal bridges include those of Briare and the canal bridge at the end of the Mittelland Canal near Magdeburg.
